Party at the Nexus Stables! ((Open to everyone!))

Ellie had rushed over from work, and had been delighted to find that Mr. Dobson, Nat, and Jinian had already begun setting up for the party. The old cowboy had already fired up the grill in preparation and the girls had set out bread baskets and salads to start. There were tables with hurricane lamps set up near the house, and some additional ones down by the pond. And with clear skies, it was going to be perfect for stargazing even if you never left the table.

Several of the horses were frolicking in the paddock, and she wondered if any of their guests might like to go riding. She was definitely game, and had decided to try riding Bucky this evening. He was a beautiful Palomino, but also quite mischievous too. She was still getting to know the horses and Mr. Dobson had helped her choose which horses would be best to introduce to their guests.

While she waited for Michael and the others to arrive, she climbed up onto the fence of the paddock and watched the horses play.

((Thanks for playing with them! Simon-mun and Ellie-mun need sleep, and will be back to keep playing tomorrow if y'all like!Back!))

Jason tries to be sociable and waves over at Donna as well.

Donna waves back! "Hi, I don't think we've met...?" Or if they have, she's forgotten. She's good that way.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-14 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Jason laughs, shakes his head.

"Nah, sorry - I don't think we have either. I just go by 'Robin' in the Nexus. Y'know, like the fifty other guys with a fetish for red and yellow. Nice to meetcha. You're friends of Mike 'n Ellie?"

[identity profile] sixtyonereasons.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am...my babysitter here hasn't met them yet." She nods towards Nathan, amused. "I'm Donna Sheppard-Crane."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cool. Nice folks all around."

This will give him a good excuse to wave at Nathan next! She doesn't look like she'd need a babysitter, but hey.

"Nice to meet you then, Donna. Unless you'd prefer 'Mrs. Sheppard-Crane'. I can do either."

Nobody trusts her not to get into trouble. It's terrible, really. They have no faith in their petty dictator.

"Donna is fine. I appreciate actually remembering both of my last names, though, as just about everyone who bothers to be formal calls me 'Mrs Crane'."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But Donna's not petty!

"No problem - and if you wanted the name that way, you would have introduced yourself that way, right? Figure I should pay attention to detail."

Crane

Nah - even if it is, this is a party, and it's not his business or problem. Nope.

[identity profile] sixtyonereasons.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what Markham and John said! And yet nobody says anything about her dictatorial tendencies...

"Exactly! Thank you." She grins. "At home, I'm Mrs Sheppard in Texas and Mrs Crane in New Jersey. Whichever husband everybody knows best, I guess. ...And my name is really not interesting enough to base a whole conversation around!" she laughs at herself a bit. "Where are you from?"

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-14 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
They probably know that their opinions would be overruled! With an iron fist! Velvet glove optional.

"So you end up spending more time in Texas? Or is it just that people like the longer name?"

If only she knew how interesting her name was! Not just for the hyphen!

"..Jersey, born and bred. Though in my world, it sometimes gets called 'Gotham City'. Kinda more run down than in other cleaner worlds, I think."

[identity profile] sixtyonereasons.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"One of my husbands is from Gotham," Donna says, cheerfully. "John -- not the one from Gotham -- doesn't like me to go there without a marine guard, though. Since some of the things that have happened there...I've given up on arguing about it."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that kinda settles it. Jason shrugs, brushes it off. Again, it's probably not _his_ Gotham. The Crane he knew wasn't married - it might actually make him friendlier.

"Yeah. Gotham can be a messed up place, no matter the world. Guess that's why some of us try to fix it. Having a marine guard would make it easier, though!"

He laughs a bit after, then adds. "Harder to play tricks on folks and such with them around, though."

[identity profile] sixtyonereasons.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's upsides and downsides to the marine guard thing. It used to really irritate me, but I've got used to it." She sticks her hands in her back pockets, tilting her head sideways.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-15 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Kinda have to if they won't listen to you saying 'go away, don't bother me', huh?"

Jason grins again. That could definitely be annoying to have happen. Protection or not, being able to get away from folks is much cooler.

There's a pause.

"So is the guy with you part of that guard?"

[identity profile] sixtyonereasons.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Nathan? He's Air Force, not a marine." Impish grin. "But no, he's just an overprotective friend. Alternate of my husband John that's living in our world now. It's all very complicated."

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_robin_go_boom_/ 2006-07-15 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Wow. Sounds like it - Living in the same world that I was already in, that sounds like it'd be pretty complex. Especially from a paperwork standpoint."

Luckily, this is not something Jason has to worry about!

[identity profile] sixtyonereasons.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Their city was destroyed, and they came through the gate to ours, by accident. We're really not sure how it happened, but they're staying, so...I'm just the petty dictator, I let the people actually in charge handle the paperwork side of things."
