He's been resting in the living room, dozing a little, when he hears the commotion. At first he thinks it's a TV show or something... until Ellie calls out. The panic in her voice is so intense that he's jumped to his feet before he realizes it. He races for the door and wrenches it open, grabbing onto the frame as a small wave of dizziness washes over him.

Then he sees the scene on the porch and everything comes into sharp focus for him.
